When
any film is being made, there are Two main process
Capturing/creating on media (film/tape/disk) etc.
Post
production - Putting together on media.
Putting together on media
While capturing you have:
Pre-roll
(A section which runs into the main section)
Main
Section
Post
roll (Section which
finishes the shot)
To pull out all the main
sections and compile them is known as editing.
'All the magic of todays movies
are owed to the advancments in the process of editing'
Editing and the Apple
Pie
Think
of editing like making and apple pie (at the woldorf),
but we'll concern ourselves with the apples
Washin the apples
Viewing the footage or captured material
Skinning the apples
Weeding un wanted pre, post roll
Adding other ingredients
Your Fx etc.
The skill here is weeding
out the skin from the fruit, each editor has a diffrent
feel which makes them make the best pie.
Is editing technical or a skill?
Both
It is executed with the help of machines
The thought which is put into visualisation and the execution
of that visualisation is pure talent
Is learning editing tough?
Learning the machines/software today
is not very difficult. Most of the programmes are computer
based
The Skill of compiling the film is purly a matter of talent
and experience, which shows with time.
How to Judge good editing?
Feel, the most important to master
in editing. Editing builds the mood, the emotions, excitment
in films. To start the main shot a fraction of a second
earlier of later could be detramental in the scene. (See
edit_tech).
For someone learning

movie and from a 'A' grade movie.
